    Walking Tours

We are delighted to have acquired a walking tour company. Formally known as Muddy Boots, some of the experienced and qualified guides from this group have joined us at Tankardstown and will escort groups from here to various areas of Meath, Louth and Bangor to enjoy the stunning scenery and challenging hikes that these counties have to offer. We will be using the following grading guidelines - easy, moderate & demanding - to allow you to choose exactly what is right for you. To make life easy for travellers we also have supplies of boots in most sizes and wet weather clothing.

    Slane Castle

Slane Castle, the home of The Earl & Countess of Mount Charles, is renowned worldwide for the annual Rock Concerts held in the natural amphitheatre in front of the Castle. Last year was the twentieth anniversary of the first Show in 1981. Acts featured over the years were U2, REM, Oasis, Neil Young, David Bowie, Queen and The Rolling Stones. The castle is also available for Receptions, Banquets and Conferences.

    Newgrange

Newgrange is one of the best examples in Ireland and in Western Europe, of a type of monument known to archaeologists as a passage-grave or passage-tomb. Access to Newgrange is through the Brú na Bóinne Visitors' Centre at nearby Donore, just across the river Boyne. In recent times, there have been as many as 200,000 visitors to Newgrange each year, making it the most visited archaeological monument in Ireland.

We enjoyed our stay at Tankardstown House very much! It's a lovely place, beautifully decorated, with a wonderful mixture of old world charm and modern day comfort. The house felt like an old friend's residence, rather than a hotel, and the grounds were beautiful. The staff took excellent care to see that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We especially enjoyed Thomas, the young man from Poland, who served us at dinner and breakfast. He was an impressive server with a charming personality! We happily recommend the house to anyone looking for accomodations in the area and we hope to return again someday!

We both enjoyed our stay and will most definitely return to you soon. Thank you for all your help, even in advising the journey home (on account of the Slane-Festival), Tommie was most helpful! Greetings to all of your most corteous staff, keep up the friendly way, it was refreshing to experience! Please use - as contact name - Evelyn Patricia, as my name will be a "dead give-away" here in Galway! Thanks again, Hermann-J. Muellers
